Love Tea

Love Tea is a Melbourne business run by a small group of dedicated individuals who strive to offer exceptional tea with purpose:  to benefit the health of customers; the lives of tea growers, and the planet at large. Skilfully crafted, blended and packed in Australia, Love Tea’s range encompasses 72 unique teas, including a range of loose leaf blends and biodegradable pyramid tea bag options. All teas are certified organic – free from pesticides, additives and artificial flavours – and sourced fairly from growers and small scale cooperatives around the world. Love Tea are dedicated to reducing any negative impact their production might have on the environment and donate 1% of their annual net revenues to support non-profit environmental organisations worldwide.

Wild Timor Coffee

Wild Timor Coffee is a coffee company like no other. At first glance, Wild Timor Coffee is a wholesale coffee bean business that provides organic green and roasted beans to the public from the wild mountain regions of Timor Leste. Scratch the surface though and you discover it is so much more. Founded in 2012 by four Australian Peacekeeping soldiers who saw first-hand the impact war had on East Timor’s communities and their coffee crops, it is a social-enterprise on a mission to help local Timorese rebuild their lives through coffee sales.

Wild Timor Coffee’s beans are handpicked from plants growing wild under ancient canopies in the pristine hinterland; dried under the golden Aileu sun; traded for a good, living wage; and distributed to stockists here in Australia and beyond. There is no middle-man (co-op) so the farmers double their earnings with every bag sold.

Wild Timor Coffee invests additional monies into clean water, literacy and healthcare projects that further grow disadvantaged communities. A portion of sales from every Belumhatu Roasted Coffee Bean bag sold goes directly to the Laulara Birthing Centre which provides much needed care for mothers and babies from poor rural communities.

“I don’t know if coffee’s going to solve poverty or not but it’s going to give these people a life where they no longer have to struggle from year to year”

Eat Me Chutneys

Eat Me Chutneys is a family run social enterprise headed up by Ankit Chopra (Michelin-trained chef), his mum Jaya (the Chutney Queen) and dad Bhupinder (Chief Labeller). Together they create supremely delicious, ethical and sustainable chutneys that are good for our planet and its people.

Made by hand, in small batches, each chutney jar is filled with fresh Australian grown organic produce, and fair trade spices and sugar from farmers in developing nations. What makes Eat Me Chutneys extra special is that they choose to cook with the wonky, spotty, overripe fruit and vegetables (just like humans, fruits and vegetables come in all shapes and sizes) that aren’t pretty enough to be sold in stores. By rescuing these perfectly-imperfect foods, Eat Me Chutneys has created 10,966 lip-smacking jars of chutney, spared 2.1 tonnes of food waste from landfill, and prevented over 6.05 tonnes of CO2 emissions from our atmosphere.

Eat Me Chutneys also offers mentoring and employment to disadvantaged female job seekers, to help them build independence.

“‘In Australia an estimated $10 billion of food is wasted every year. We rescue wonky yet gorgeous produce and convert it into epic chutneys!”

Origin: Fairtrade food co-operatives in India and Paraguay

Hawkers Beer

When Lebanese brewer Mazen Hajjar and Melbourne chef Joseph Abboud (from Rumi, and Moor's Head fame) decided to explore their love of craft beer, Hawkers Beer was born. In early 2015 the pair opened the independent Hawkers Brewery in Reservoir and went to great lengths to perfect the quality of their range: a pale ale, IPA, pilsner, saison, and imperial stout. Since then, Hawkers have won an incredible 28 industry awards including ‘Supreme Champion Brewer 2016’ and ‘Brewer of the Year Oceania’.

It is little wonder Hawkers Beer is recognised as Melbourne’s best by beer-lovers and critics alike.

“I genuinely love all our beers… we just want to brew really great beer that is interesting.”

Hawkers Pilsner / Pale Ale – 330ml

Their Pilsner is an American-inspired brew and the Pale Ale is a traditional Czech beer. Both are perfect if you want something light that’s easy to drink and each pairs well with seafood, chicken and salads.

Pyren Vineyard Wines

Pyren Vineyard is a small-scale, family focused producer of cool-climate wines. In 1999, on an isolated patch of earth surrounded by state forest and farmland, brothers Brian & Kevyn Joy planted 80 acres of grapes that today produce Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.

Now operated by Brian’s son Leighton in the winery, and viticultural guru and sheep grazier Graeme Miles, Pyren Vineyard consistently produces low-yielding fruit of exceptional quality with an artistic flare! Their endeavour to fine tune the best style for Pyren's fruit is a continuous one that knows no bounds. The Broken Quartz label artwork has been created to reflect the terrain on which Pyren Vineyard is situated, representing the beautifully coloured landscape and the difficult face of farming the site.

“We are aiming to set the standard for benchmark wines in Victoria’s Pyrenees wine growing region.”

Broken Quartz Shiraz 2012 – 750ml

Aromas of red and blackberries, spice, flora, and rose water. An elegant palate of ripe fruit, pepper and spice, with a hint of Pyrenees flora leading to a generous finish supported by a fine and integrated tannin structure.

Broken Quartz Sauvignon Blanc 2015 – 750ml

Two parcels are combined to make this wine. One being a temperature controlled ferment, with tight tropical and citrus aspects; the second being a whole bunch component showing a spicy ginger and textural complexity.

Made in: Warrenmang Valley, Pyrenees, Victoria
